Bartender's Guide

The bartender's guide section is meant to dispel any doubts and misconceptions you may have regarding bartending. Almost anyone would say that he or she has thought about learning how to bartend. But why do most people shy away from taking the first step to becoming a bartender?

A lot of people are intimidated by the drink making aspect, more specifically, having to know how to make multiple different drinks. This is completely understandable. After all, there are more than hundreds of different drink recipes out there, and new ones being made as we speak.

However, the first thing I'd like to mention is this: most people don't realize that drink recipes are pretty easy to learn.

In fact, there are about maybe a dozen, two dozen, at most, commonly requested drinks. Examples that come to mind are: long island ice teas, vodka tonics, gin and tonics, sex on the beach, vodka and redbull, and so on and so forth. As you can see, these drinks are farily basic and easy-to-make.

As long as you know these basic drinks, which are super easy to make, all else will follow.

Once you have these drinks under your belt, the other, more elaborate drinks, such as Mai Tais, Old-Fashioneds, and Mojitos, in addition to the house specialty cocktails, will naturally follow.

It's all about practicing. The more cocktails you make, the more confident you'll be.

And depending on the establishment that you're working at, the types of drinks requested will be so commonplace that after a few weeks, if not days, of working at the bar, you'll most likely know how to make the drinks by heart.

For example, if you're working at a high-end bar that serves mostly martinis, most of the drinks you make will be martinis-vodka martinis, gin martinis, chocolate or espresso martinis.

As a result, you'll most definitely know how to make different kinds of martinis with your eyes practically closed.

Under the bartender's guide, I'll also define and explain house pours, tips on mixing and shaking drinks, and drink ratios, all of which are concepts that you need to know as a bartender.
