Blue Cosmopolitan
The Blue Cosmopolitan is a fun variation on the classic cosmopolitan drink. As the name implies, the cocktail
basically tastes the same as a normal cosmo, the difference being, the color of the drink.
So, if it's the exact same thing as the traditional cocktail, why do people order this? Perhaps, because
they think it's fun. It's different. It looks cool.
All in all, the blue version of the drink is
a nice trick to have up the sleeve for those occasions when a customer might ask you, the bartender,
to change up his or her cocktail.
Plus, it's a fun drink to make especially during the summer. Owing to its sweet taste and cool look, the
blue cocktail will definitely have a following during the hot summer months.
The ingredients are exactly the same, save for the triple-sec. Instead of regular triple-sec, or orange-flavored
liqueur, you'll use
blue curacao.
What is blue curacao? It's a liqueur flavored with the dried peel of the
laraha citrus fruit found
on the island of
Curacao.
The fruit is a non-native version of the orange, and was in fact originally
developed from the Spanish Valencia Orange.
Although the fruit itself is extremely bitter, its peel
is used for its aromatic qualities and citrus flavor.
Fortunately, for you, there are a few places that make organic blue curacao. Check out
Monin Blue Curacao
Syrup.
