Make a Daiquiri Cocktail

The daiquiri is sort of like an umbrella clause referring to drinks made primarily from rum, lime juice, and some kind of sweetener.

The Daiquiri was apparently named after both a beach and an iron mine in Santiago, Cuba that shares the same name.

The cocktail is thought to have been invented in Venus in Santiago, a bar located not too far from the mine, by a bunch of American mining engineers.

It is often cited that the drink became popular around the time of World War II during which the wartime rationing made hard liquor such as Whisky scarce.

Moreover, president Franklin D. Roosevelt's Good Neighbor Policy opened up trade with with Latin America, the Caribbean, and Cuba, thereby allowing rum to be more easily available.

The daiquiri cocktail continued to rise in popularity in the US during that time.

There is also a frozen variation to this drink called the frozen daiquiri. All it entails is the simple addition of blended ice into the drink mix. I'll include directions on how to make this drink below.

Ingredients
  • 2 oz. of Organic White Rum
  • 1/2 oz. of Fresh Lime Juice
  • 1/4 oz. of Simple Syrup made from Sugar or Styvia
Directions
  • Fill a shaker halfway with ice
  • Pour the rum, lime juice, and syrup into the mixer
  • Shake vigorously
  • Strain into a chilled martini glass
  • Garnish with a lime
  • Serve
Frozen Daiquiri

The frozen version of this cocktail uses the same ingredients as above. But instead of straining the mixture from the ice, you blend the ice with the rest of the ingredients. In a blender, add in all the ingredients, including half-cup of ice. Blend until the mixture is of a slushy consistency.

Pour into a hurricane glass and serve
