Hurricane Drink - Delicious Tropical Cocktail

The Hurricane Drink is a relative of the Daiquiri family.

This cocktail is a very sweet drink made with rum, grenadine, syrup, and any type of fruit juice.

The drink has its origins in New Orleans where tavern owner, Pat O'Brien, first introduced this drink as a way to get rid of the extra cases of rum he had in order to buy better quality hard liquor such as whisky.

Using rum, passion fruit juice, and lime juice, O'Brien created a delicious cocktail that swept through the French Quarters like a storm in popularity.

The cocktail has since caught on and has become one of the signature drinks of New Orleans, and other parts of the country, of course.

The Hurricane drink is known to be quite sweet. You can tinker slightly with the juice ratio, opting to go with unsweetened juices and adding a little more of lime juice may offset the sweet flavor.

In terms of which juice to choose, I like to use Santa Cruz Organic Passion Fruit Juice. If you're feeling like making it yourself, grab 3-4 passion fruits, skin them, cut them up, and puree them into a nice pulp.

The mixture will make the drink slightly thicker, but nothing can beat the awesomeness of fresh fruit.

Please be aware. As this beverage uses anywhere from 3-5 oz of Rum, it tends to be much stronger than your average highball cocktail. It's also bigger in size, so keep that in mind! :)
