Non-Alcoholic Drinks

Why did I decide to include a section for non-alcoholic drinks in a site that is primarily about cocktails containing alcohol? Well, why not?

There are plenty of delicious drinks you can make without the use of alcohol. In fact, a lot of cocktails including the cocktail recipes that I've listed on this site can be made sans alcohol. You may wonder how they taste, but I can assure you that they taste just as good as the ones containing Etoh!

People will oftentimes refer to these drinks with the word "virgin," which basically means an alcoholic drink without the alcohol. So a Virgin Pina Colada basically means a pina colada without the rum. A Virgin Margarita basically refers to a margarita drink without the tequila. Pretty straight forward, right?

I have actually had quite a few "mocktails" that were much better than their non-virgin counterparts. For example, when I was vacationing in Hawaii with my best friend, we stopped by a tiki-bar where I ordered a Lava Flow, and my friend who does not drink alcohol ordered the virgin version of the same drink.

After taking a few sips, she started to rave about how good the drink was. I was a bit skeptical, and decided to stick with my drink. After all, mine did containing delicious rum.

On our last night, we ventured back to that same restaurant. I had been feeling a bit under the weather so I decided to order a virgin cocktail. Actually, it was the same drink that my best friend had ordered a few nights before.

I took one sip, and was immediately hooked. It was in fact much better than the alcohol-containing Lava Flow. But how could this be? They most likely used the same exact mixers.

Anyway, I digress. My main point is, drinks don't need to contain alcohol to taste good. And, in some cases, like my previous example, a drink might taste better without the liquor.

I've included a few popular non-alcoholic drink recipes below.

Soda Punch

Ingredients
  • 1 oz. of a soda flavor of your choosing
  • 1/2 oz. of organic cranberry or pink lemonade
  • 1/2 oz. of orange juice
Instructions
  1. Add half a cup of ice to a metal shaker
  2. Pour the cranberry or lemonade and orange juice into the shaker
  3. Shake well
  4. Pour the mixed content into a cocktail glass
  5. Top up with the soda of your choosing
**Remember to add the soda in at the very last. If you shake the drink after adding the soda, you'll end up with a bubbly mess.
